Roman gold pin or stylus

Length: 12 cm
A Roman pin or stylus of elongated pyramidical form, the four sides tapering from a square to a rounded section at the point, made from a thick gold foil. Capped by a round bead of banded agate attached by a gold pin with hammered flat top.
The gold, beauty of the stone and quality of the workmanship would indicate this to be an item of luxury.
Condition: Intact, some slight denting to gold body and cracks in the stone bead
Literature: For a Romano-British example of similar form carved from jet, see one now housed in the British Museum (1866,1203.108).
