Pair of delicate gold earrings: crescents with pendular circular drops
Parthian, 2nd century AD
Length: 4.1 cm
A pair of Parthian gold earrings, in the form of large sheet metal crescents. Each crescent modelled with three soldered suspension hoops suspended from the lower edge of the crescent shape and decorated with pendular disc-shaped drops. From the crest of the crescent rises a suspension loop attaching to the link of a gold ball bead, which, pierced longitudinally, is used to fix the drops to the ring. The ring is of a pennanular shape and curls over on itself to ensure the ball bead remains in place.
Condition: Intact, with modern fixture rings.
Provenance: UK collection, acquired 1970s to 1990s
